Tomato are of number of varieties and are widely grown in temperate climate across the world. The plant grows only about 1 – 3 meters in height with weak stem. Size of tomato is small and one tomato weighs approximately 100 grams.

Tomatoes are considered a fruit or vegetable depending on context. The varieties of tomato are considered on the basis of shape and size. Some of the varieties are beefsteak, plum tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, Campari tomatoes, tomberries, pear tomatoes, oxheart tomatoes, slicing or globe tomatoes (most common commercially available).
95% of tomato is water. Carbohydrates acquires 4% of the remaining 5% and fat and protein in less than 1%. It contains calories and moderate sources of vitamin C and other antioxidants.
